After a relatively quiet debate for him, Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump literally and figuratively got the last word at ABC News’ Republican presidential primary debate Saturday night. As Sen. Ted Cruz finished his closing statement by referencing his win in last week’s Iowa caucuses, Trump segued into his own closing remarks with a hard shot at Cruz for what he did to Ben Carson in that state’s contest:
Cruz: The people of Iowa put country and our children above the corporate welfare. We can turn this country around if we get back to the constitution and I will always stand with the American people against the bipartisan corruption of Washington.
Trump: That’s because he got Ben Carson’s votes, by the way, but we won’t say that.
The crack drew a mixed, mostly negative reaction from the crowd, but as Trump observed earlier, they might not be the best barometer of his success tonight.
